Vinyl Is Everywhere

You may have heard some negative publicity in the last few years with regards to Vinyl and human health.

I’ve heard things like Vinyl causes cancer, Vinyl kills babies, even that Vinyl causes erectile dysfunction in men.

It seems like every week there’s some new negative statement being made about Vinyl.

Well if any of this nonsense were true, we’d be in big trouble because Vinyl is everywhere!

If you live in a house or apartment, if you drive a car, if you’ve ever been to a hospital, you’ve been exposed to Vinyl.

However there’s no need to worry because the truth of the matter is that Vinyl is not only safe, but also beneficial to human health.

Vinyl has many significant benefits but the most important one is probably its corrosion resistance.

Doesn’t Corrode & It’s Smooth

Vinyl does not corrode therefore it does not release any fumes or toxic contaminants.

It’s a stable, inert material which does not react with any other material that may come in contact with it, including human skin.

So if it doesn’t release anything, how can it be harmful?

Another important benefit is its superior smoothness.

The smoothness of the material is critical when it’s used for transporting potable water, as in PVC water mains, because a smooth surface provides no place for bacteria to hide.

This is why PVC water mains are so easy to disinfect, and one of the reasons why Vinyl is the material of choice for water mains all across Canada.

Hospitals Use It A Lot

One interesting tidbit of information that the naysayers forget to mention when they release their negative statements is that hospitals all over the world have been using Vinyl for sensitive medical equipment such as blood bags and intravenous tubes for over 50 years now.

This equipment that is used in hospitals every day not only comes in contact with human skin, it’s also inserted into patients’ arteries and veins.

Everyone knows someone who has had some type of surgery in a hospital.

Have you ever heard of any patient having a bad reaction or getting sick from contact with Vinyl tubes?

Obviously not.

From a medical perspective, Vinyl is safe because it does not corrode and therefore does not release anything, and it’s also beneficial because its superior smoothness makes it easy to disinfect.

So Why….

So after reading what you’ve read so far, you may be asking why are there still people out there who continue to place Vinyl in a negative light?

That is a very difficult question to answer because no one really knows the true intentions of other people.

It is tough to tell whether the people who make these statements truly believe that Vinyl is bad.

They may have a political agenda that coincides with the negative stereotyping of Vinyl.

A perfect example is Greenpeace.

When it was originally founded, Greenpeace had the best intentions.

They believed in saving the whales and nuclear disarmament.

Unfortunately as it grew it became increasingly more political.

One of its co-founders and the only member with a background in science, Dr. Patrick Moore, had to leave the organization because it became too political.

It wasn’t about the environment anymore, it was about politics.

Seeking The Truth About Vinyl

So the next time you’re exposed to negative publicity about Vinyl ask yourself:

– Who is the person making these statements?

– What is their agenda?

– Who is paying them?

It’s good to be critical of everything that you hear.

Let’s try and stop this attack on Vinyl because if the naysayers win, we’re all in big trouble!
